Change - We embrace its viability in our industry

The weather was beautiful in Clearwater Beach and conference attendees arrived excited to learn, network and share at the annual GRAVISITE Site Selection Technology Conference. Keynote speaker, Mike Lee from The Future Market, kicked off the conference theme; Embracing Change. He brought us on a journey of exploring a futurist vision of grocery and food production. Attendees were walked through a fascinating experience of how food will be grown, shipped and sold to customers in the next 10-50 years. Mike Lee blends the physical with the digital experience to truly bend the mind and help grocers and retail industries adapt to the changes already starting to take place. That was just the start of the conference too! There were several amazing speakers including:

Luke Petherbridge - Shopcore Properties: Luke focused on the new emerging role of the relationship between neighborhood shopping centers and supermarkets. Grocery stores are now strategically located as anchor tenants to draw broader and viable customer base to the shopping centers. Clay Hallman - Simon Malls: As more big box anchors fold in and shut down, malls are facing new challenges filling those anchor tenants. Clay engaged attendees with an amusing, but crucial presentation about how malls can creatively recruit new and non traditional retail tenants to sustain the present state of the US mall.

David Rogers - DSR Marketing: If you were wondering about the state of LIDL, a year after they jumped into the US supermarket competition and if they will survive, David Rogers captivated GRAVISITE attendees with new information about how they are making changes fast to overcome the challenges of surviving the US grocery market. Jim Puffer - Gravitec Development: Jim Puffer took us on a walk-through of modern supermarkets, examining current trends and issues within the individual departments; topics include nutrition, organics, free-range, natural foods, antibiotics, growth hormones, sourcing,

distribution, labeling, gluten-free, GMO, prepared foods and meal kits. Attendees were enlightened on how these issues and trends can impact the ultimate success (or failure) of a supermarket.

We had several new and leading-edge technology representatives to speak and coach attendees on how to use and implement the best technology to better manage and produce profitability and viability for site location markets and tenant recruitment.

Planned Grocer - data driven analysis platforms that support the evolution of changing consumer behaviors.

ChainXY - Tips, tricks, strategies in managing your geographic and demographic data.

SiteSeer Technologies - Research concepts that go beyond the traditional grocery research and how to implement the tools to support multiple facets of analytics.

B.I. Spatial - How to use Alteryx to harness the right mobile data to get the best market, customer and competitor insight.

SitesPlus - Interactive discussion on problem solving in the modeling process.

VMAXX - Artificial Intelligence is not going away, so it's time to embrace it! How to use the tools you already have today to drive your market even further with AI-software

GRAVISITE grew it's market for attendees and we were proud to have several Shopping Center Ownership companies represented this year in attendance, alongside our Grocery Chain, Developers, Municipalities, Analytic Software and Consulting Businesses. Here's the rundown:
